Throughout our nation's history the necessary sacrifices and burdens that afford us the freedoms to pursue prosperity have rested on the backs of our military. An unwelcome irony of this is, many of these troops can barely afford the goods and services we take for granted. In an effort to correct this, We Thank Our Troops was founded.

The President and creator of this concept is Bob Zimmerman, who has long been instrumental in forming nationally-recognized organizations to help those in need on a national and local levels. Bob has been involved in the following organizations and relief efforts:

  • December 1989: San Diego Cares (SDC) was founded in response to the devastation of the Loma Prieta Earthquake in San Francisco. More than $200,000 was donated by the citizens of San Diego by SDC in concert with the Salvation Army.

  • December 1990: Operation San Diego Cares (OSDC) was formed in support of our troops in Desert Storm. OSDC organized the shipping of thousands of care packages from individuals and corporations in the San Diego area to our troops in the Persian Gulf.

  • January 1992: Bob Zimmerman became Vice-President of Special Projects for World Emergency Relief (WER). During this time he worked on the following projects: Tijuana Flood Relief, Guadalajara, Mexico Street Explosions, Christmas program for needy San Diego children, Relief effort for the 1994 victims of the Los Angeles Earthquake. Love Boxes to children of Kosovo.

  • May 2001: After leaving WER, Bob organized a group of businesses to continue providing school supplies to children in Kosovo.

  • October 2001: Worked with the Salvation Army to help victims of the 9/11 disaster.

  • November 2001 and November 2002: Food and Toy Drive for Pennsylvania children.

  • May 2003: Formed Operation Troop Support, USA (OTSUSA) to send care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • June 2004: OTSUSA shipped 40,000 pounds of care packages to troops in combat areas.

  • October 2004: Care packages shipped to medical teams supporting troops in Baghdad.

  • February 2005: Produced "Welcome Home Dinner" for Pennsylvania National Guard troops returning from Iraq.
